Acclaimed choreographer Seya Uralagamage marked the end of a major chapter on September 10th, debuting her final contemporary dance production for the next few years, WAVES: Echoes of Thoughts. Held at the Kamatha New Theatre, BMICH at 7:30 PM, the sold-out showcase served as a poignant parting gift to the local art community before she migrates for higher studies, with plans to return to the stage in 2030.
Uralagamage, the creative force behind the Train with Seya movement, delivered a deeply personal and emotionally raw performance. The production masterfully translated internal monologues, mental health themes, and human vulnerability into a striking physical art form.
The minimalist, rustic architecture of the Kamatha New Theatre perfectly framed the fluid, intense storytelling. The evening culminated in a resounding standing ovation from a full house of art enthusiasts, critics, and students, celebrating Seya’s immense contribution to Sri Lankan contemporary dance as she pauses her local career for her upcoming academic journey.
