The Lionel Wendt Theatre came alive on 4th September 2026 as Dance Works Centre and Soul Sounds Academy presented Where The Beat Begins, a vibrant production that brought together the beauty of dance and the power of music.
Directed and choreographed by Kanthi Ranchigoda, Directress of Dance Works Centre, and Soundarie David Rodrigo, Directress of Soul Sounds Academy, the production showcased an exciting range of dance styles, including Classical Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary, Tap, Jazz, Freestyle and Modern Hip-Hop.
Featuring dancers from different age groups, the production celebrated versatility, creativity, discipline and self-expression, while highlighting the dedication and countless hours of practice that went into bringing each performance to the stage.
The collaboration between Dance Works Centre and Soul Sounds Academy created a memorable fusion of movement and song, offering audiences an evening filled with elegance, rhythm, energy and emotion.
With Dance with a Purpose also continuing Dance Works Centre’s long-standing commitment to supporting Surol, the production was not only a celebration of the performing arts but also an opportunity to give back to the community.
Where The Beat Begins ultimately reflected the belief that dance is more than movement, it is about building confidence, friendships, discipline and a lifelong love for the art.
