
Mrs. Marie Musaeus Higgins passed away on 10th July 1926. Her death anniversary is commemorated annually at Musaeus College on the 9th and 10th of July. The year 2026 marks the centenary of her passing, providing a significant opportunity to honour and celebrate the life and legacy of a remarkable educator whose contributions transformed the landscape of female education in Sri Lanka.
Her enduring legacy remains a powerful reminder of the transformative role of education in empowering women, strengthening communities, and shaping the future of a nation. As we commemorate the 100th death anniversary of our beloved Founder Principal, Marie Musaeus Higgins, we are reminded that it was her dedication and vision that laid the foundation for Musaeus.
The commemorative postage stamp and first day cover issued in her honour is more than a tribute to her life and work. It stands as a lasting symbol of the extraordinary legacy she left behind and the enduring impact she continues to have on our school.
The Commemorative Stamp Launch was graced by the presence of our esteemed guests; Chairman, Mr Ajita De Zoysa, Managing Trustee, Mr Dinesh De Zoysa, Trustee Mr Chanaka De Silva, Distinguished officials of the Philatelic Bureau, Mr Lanka De Silva, Mr Viraj Fernando and Mr Kalum. The stamp cancellation ceremony was also conducted as part of the programme, marking this memorable occasion with dignity and honour.
