Visakha Centenary Camp Fire lighted up on the 8th of October 2017 at the Jeremias Dias Hall of Visakha Vidyalaya from 6.30 pm onwards amidst the ebullient girl guilds.

The fun-filled camp fire was organized by the Past and Present Girl Guides of the 11th Colombo Company in celebration of the Visakha Vidyalaya centenary anniversary which was marked on the 16th of January 2017.

Adverse weather conditions were unable to hamper the excitement which the girl guides were anticipated to enjoy. The pre arrangements made to have a normal camp fire at the school grounds had to be revamped into an indoor event with a mock fire. Even so, the organizing committee succeeded to transpire the true effect of camp fire within the school Main Hall for the guides.

Apart from the 100th year celebration of Visakha Vidyalaya , there were few other centenary celebrations connected with the 'Visakha Centenary Camp Fire' which uplifted the event's significance. The year 2017 commemorated the Centenary of the Girl Guides Movement in Sri Lanka and the 100th birthday of the late Mrs. Sita Rajasuriya .

Girl Guiding was introduced to Ceylon by Miss Janny Calverly in 1017 and was soon spread across the country. Hence, Girl Guiding has been solely serving the Nation by empowering young girls island wide, to become confident young women, through activities, events and adventures.

Late Mrs. Sita Rajasuriya was a proud past Visakhian who was a much loved and respected captain of the 11th Colombo Company back in the day and was a trail blazer in the Girl Guide movement. She brought honour to her Alma Mater Visakha Vidyalaya and her country by becoming the First Sri Lankan who was elected to the World Committee of WAGGGS, the first Chairman of the AP Regional Committee and the First Asian to chair a World Conference of WAGGGS.

The event was graced by numerous past and present Commissioners of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association, as well as Guide Captains, Sylvanas of 11th Colombo Girl Guides Company.

It was a Nostalgic occasion for the past Girl Guides of 11th Colombo, for they were walked down the memory lane as they rekindled with the old colleagues to recap the unforgettable and wonderful moments they had experienced around campfires.

Visakha Centenary Camp Fire gave an exceptional Camp Fire experience embedded with amusement and delight to the young girl guides who were enjoying every minute of the merriment.
