ISBSC 2014 organized by the Gavel Club of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 5th of May, 2014 at the auditorium Faculty of Commerce and Management, University of Kelaniya. The event was an immense success and was graced by the presence of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Professor Sunanda Madduma Bandara. Hasindri Sankapana of Sapugaskanda Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya was victorious in the Junior Category, while M. Javeed Ossen of Ashoka College stood victorious in the Senior Category.
As the pioneers of organizing the “All Island Inter University Best Speaker Contest” and the “Intra University Best Speaker Contest” from the year 2005 onwards, the Gavel Club of the University of Kelaniya takes immense pleasure in also being the organizers of ISBSC 2014, the first ever Inter School Best Speaker Contest in the history of Gavle UOK.
This is the culmination of a series of workshops and training programmes conducted by the Gavel Club of the University of Kelaniya under the theme “Unleash Yourself”.
Our objective was to create a platform for the school community to excel in public speaking. The preliminary round and the Semi Finals of the competition were held on the 19th March and on the 23rd April respectively. The Grand Finals was held on the 5th May 2014 at the auditorium of the Faculty of Commerce and Management, University of Kelaniya.
The stage that was built for our dear brothers and sisters was the result of the hard work of Gaveliars and it was a milestone in the history of the Gavel Club. The event was an immense success and was graced by the presence of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Professor Sunanda Madduma Bandara.
The Winner of the Junior Category was Hasindri Sankalpana of Sapugaskanda Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya. Praveen Jayasundere of Royal College, Colombo emerged the first runner-up while Lakshika Varatharajah of Ramanathan Hindu Ladies’ College was the second Runner-up. M. Javed Ossen of Ashoka College was the Winner of the Senior Category and Upuli Erandika of Sapugaskanda Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya was the First Runner-up. The Second Runner-up of the Senior Category was W.I. Elyas of St Anthony’s College, Wattala. Congratulations to all winners!! AT GAVEL UOK, WE MAKE HISTORY!
