When it comes to adventure racing in Sri Lanka Damith Weerasinghe’s name has gone down in the history as the youngest racer (16 yrs) in Foxhill Super cross 2013. Damith entered his first adventure race in Pannala Racing Track in 2012, breaking a record after 5 years in 1000cc motor sport event recording the best timing of 1.12.03. Let’s look in to Damith’s life in a short yet exclusive interview he did with XtreamYouth.
Hi Damith, shall we start this telling about your first-ever win in any form of motorsports?
My very first motor sport race was at Pannala Racing Track in 2012. I could break a record after 5 years in 1000cc motor sport eventrecording the best timing of 1.12.03.
Impressive! How old were you at that time?
I was only 16 years old.
There should have been a lot of practicing before your first win. Shall we talk about that?
Well, actually no. We are not allowed to enter the track before the race. All I do is walk around the track, examine it and mark my braking points.
You are going to race on Foxhill this year, which is a big thing. How do you feel?
This year foxhill is going to be my first time in Diyathalawa and I’m so excited though I hope to give a nice show putting forward my best skills.
What's your personal code of conduct on the track?
The first half of the race, when a guy catches you and has passed multiple cars to get to you, it's just a matter of time (before he passes). All you're going to do by holding him up is increase the risk of you and him getting in a wreck together when you're racing real hard.
But what about after halfway?
Your give-and-take level starts to back down a little bit. I'd say pretty much anything is fair game.
Personally I have seen you very aggressive on the track. Do you keep a mental list of people you owe for on-track payback?
Yeah, pretty much. You don't get back at 'em by wrecking 'em, you just race 'em extra hard. You race 'em like they race you. If I kept a mental list, I would have wrecked just about everyone by now.
So it's not a mental list for retaliation, necessarily, but just a list of guys you won't cut a break to?
Yeah, you just make their lives harder for a little while.
What are the racing events that you participate at Foxhill?
I will participate 1000cc Charade G10, 1300cc Ford Laser, 1600cc Honda Vtec. 1600cc Honda Vtec event is gonna be my very first fastest event which will race with all the monsters.
This year, he is going to try his new adventure in Foxhill Supercross anticipating to drive his hot wheels car racing and stunting to a whole new dimension.
