The 'Media Day' of Visakha Vidyalaya was held on the 27th of February 2018 at the Jeramias Dias Hall as a tribute to the renowned Journalist Premakeerthi de Alwis.

Media which is the ultimate equalizer disseminating information and knowledge was celebrated by the Media unit of Visakha Vidyalaya for it gives a voice and a platform to be heard and to be informed.

Premakeerthi de Alwis who was a Sri Lankan radio and television broadcaster and lyricist was acknowledged for his noteworthy service in the Media field and the Entertainment Industry of the country. Premakeerthi de Alwis was an announcer and a programme producer at Radio Ceylon and at it's successor the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC). He later became a Presenter in Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and presented well watched programmes such as Anduna, Ayubowan and Sampath Rekha (National Lotteries Board).

Premakeerthi de Alwis was also a prolific lyricist who wrote a large number of songs for more than 150 Sri Lankan films and he has worked with well known famous singers including Mohideen Baig, Malini Bulathsinhala, Milton Mallawaarachchi, Milton Perera, Mervyn Perera and Victor Ratnayaka.
