A spectacular match winning goal at the last minute secured the coveted M.N. Edissoriya trophy at the hands of Visakhians for the 7th consecutive time. Ladies College fought valiantly themselves, leveling the scores in the last quarter of the second half. The ladies in blue took the trophy home for the 7th time, ending yet another entertaining water polo season for Visakha Vidyalaya and Ladies College.

Visakha Vidyalaya breaking the waters, acquired the championship for the seventh consecutive year and redefined her legacy, at the grand battle of '14th Annual Ladies'-Visakha Water Polo Encounter' on the 17th of October 2017 at Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex from 2.30pm onwards.

It was a swift match full of action and thrill which kept raising the goosebumps and heartbeats of the Blue and Red audience, until the very end of play. Visakha Vidyalaya gave a dashing beginning with two long- range shots by Shaleena Peiris. It continued as a favourable 1st quarter for the Visakhian Water Polo team, as they succeeded in achieving four scores by the end of the first quarter itself.

As the second quarter began, Ladies' College splashed its first goal by Kanchana Swaminathan and marked their competitive entrance to the game. By the end of the second quarter, Ladies' College climbed halfway up the scoreboard having a score of 8-4, which tremendously amplified the cheers of the Red.

Nimashi de Silva's hat- trick followed by a goal from deputy skipper Dunyasha Hewagama was spot on time. For as it levelled the scoreboard, the pressure at both ends got extremely real. Visakha Vidyalaya's dream of retaining the seventh year victory title was fallen at risk with the goals tallying 9-9.

Ladies' College presented a spectacular performance giving the Visakhians an unimaginable come back attack. Even so, they were unable to bring the opponent down.

Provoking the Visakhian spirit, The Player of the Match, Shaleena Peiris declared the victory of the 'M. N. Edussooriya Trophy' for the seventh successive year, by striking the winning goal with less than 30 seconds to the conclusion of the game.
