An Evening of Zest : Thomian Fair 2011

Thomian Fair 2011

Thomian Fair 2011 The evening breeze itself seemed to have gained a vibrant air into it around Mt. Lavinia on September 1st from 5pm onwards.

Thomian Fair 2011’, one of the most looked forward to events of the year, which coincides with the 125th anniversary of the OBA of the S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia became alive at St. Thomas’ College Grounds on September 1, 2 and 3 from 5.30pm.

‘Thomian Fair 2011’ featured a whole heap of entertainment including live musical concerts featuring some of the top names in the local music scene.

Old Thomian Sohan Weerasinghe and his band X’ Periments performed on opening day (September 1) of the Fair with guest stars Mariazelle Gunathilaka and Paul Fernando. Rajitha Rupasinghe with Misty rocked the following day together with Annesly Malawana and Ronnie Leitch, the Tattaya.

Thomian Fair 2011 Jayantha de Silva, who is also an old Thomian performed with his band Pearl to wrap up the carnival in style on September 3 with Corrine Almeida and Bathiya, Santhush, Ashanthi, Randhir and Umariya as guest stars on stage.

The main objective of this Fair was to ensure that everyone present has an enjoyable time as well as to raise funds for the infrastructure needs of the College. ‘Thomian Fairs, over the years have acquired a reputation for being well organized and patronized events providing high class entertainment to all age groups.

The Thomian Fair was powered by Dialog as the Platinum sponsor, and in keeping sync with the brand promise of The Future.

alt The fun fair included a wide variety of fun events such as the Galaxy, Roller Coaster and other rides. To ensure that everyone has a great time, the organizers had set up 2 Merry-Go-Rounds a Giant Wheel and other fun rides that provided non stop entertainment for everyone present. The College Stamp Club together with the Postal Department had a Stamp Exhibition at the Fair.

A wide array of Corporate & Government stalls was displaying their products at the Fair grounds. The STF, Army, Navy and the Air Force also displayed the latest equipment at the Fair. Model Railway, Car Shows, Rifile Shooting, House of Horrors, Amusement Activities, Games of Skill & a wide variety of other stalls were also available.

Thomian Fair 2011 Also for the first time in the school fun fair circuit, Gold FM & Sun FM the premier radio stations partnered the Radio Club of STC & run request stalls for those interested in listening or dedicating their favorite songs to their loved ones. Sun FM operated a high end nightclub with its own DJ’s as well as top of the range DJs in today’s local club scene which is sure to draw in crowds of all ages.

Music to suit your mood from rap to hip hop to retro belted out with an enhanced sound system to ensure that the party goers are blown away into a galaxy of good time.

A group of young enterprising Thomians also operated a stall to educate the crowd present on Animal Rights & Welfare where leaflets were distributed. Again it was first in any school fun fair. The rocking DJ that slashed up the surroundings and all the sexy girlies presented, made the night one super awe-inspiring memory. The crowds got a unique experience with the Interactive Dance Station and the groovy music of Colombo’s hottest DJs.
