'Battle of the Saints' is one of the biggest cricket battles attracting the excitement of the March Madness. The 43rd Limited Over Cricket Encounter between St. Joseph's College and St. Peter's College commenced on the 25th of March 2017 at the SSC Grounds, to discover the winner of 2017's Rev. Fr Peter. A Pillai Trophy.

The 43rd Limited Over Cricket Encounter between St. Joseph's College and St. Peter's College commenced on the 25th of March 2017 at the SSC Grounds, to discover the winner of 2017's Rev. Fr Peter. A Pillai Trophy.
The coin was tossed, electing St.Peter's College first, to show off their batting moves. St.Peter's opening batsmen stepped into the fine greens of SSC grounds with the loud support cries of the Peterite crowd. Sulakshana Fernando gave Peterites hope since the start as his scoring dashed into an amazing score of 90runs. With Sulakshana's walk out, Manelker de Silva managed to steal the spotlight, making the crowd cheers go louder than the Papare drums. Batman Manelker scored an outstanding 107runs, assuring an unbeatable final score. With the scores of Santhush Gunathilake 31runs and Lakshina Rodrigo 23runs, St. Peter's College ended it's 50over inning with a score of 311runs for 8wickets.
The chase for 312runs began, as the mighty Joe openers headed on to the pitch to strike the Peterite thunderbolts. The battle started to heat up as the Joe batman Dineth Madurawala's strikes ended up scoring beautiful sixes. Dineth walked out scoring an amazing 73runs, getting St. Joseph's College near to victory. Havin Perera achieved an almost half century with 47runs. The Joes cricket team's beautiful batting certainly got no eyes off the ground . The running out of wickets & balls, however made the Joes impossible to reach victory. With only 3 deliveries left, the last wicket was taken. The final strike which would've been a boundary 4runs if missed, ended St.Joseph's College final score at 257runs for all wickets out.
