14th Annual Ladies’ College vs Bishop’s College Hockey Encounter 2018

The 14th edition of Ladies’ – Bishop’s Hockey Shield took place on the 29th of September 2018 between Ladies’ College and Bishop’s College at the Astro Hockey Turf, Colombo under great weather and among loud cheers. Ladies’ College after a tough match brought the shield back home after two years of it being on the opponent’s hands.
The 14th edition of Ladies’ – Bishop’s Hockey Shield took place on the 29th of September 2018 between Ladies’ College and Bishop’s College at the Astro Hockey Turf, Colombo under great weather and among loud cheers. Ladies’ College after a tough match brought the shield back home after two years of it being on the opponent’s hands.
In both first halves of the Under 17 as well as the Under 19 matches, the two teams were effortless in scoring a goal for their defence was equally strong and fierce. The Under 17 team of Ladies’ College determined not to let go of the trophy for the third time, headed back to the field in the last 25 minutes with great vigour and force to score. Sulani De Silva stealing the spot light of the Ladies’ – Bishop’s Hockey Shield 2018 all on herself, scored two goals taking Ladies’ College to the forefront of becoming the winners of the Under 17 match.
The Under 19 match which took the centre attention of the crowd, started off in favour of Bishop’s College for they were able to take the most possession of the ball in the first half. However, as both teams were unable to score in the first half, Suhithri Paranamanage, the Goalkeeper of Ladies’ College took the finale of the match upon herself in making sure Bishop’s College does not at any cost receive the chance to score. Thus, the Under 19 match concluded goalless in both parties and announcing Ladies’ College as the winners of the 14th edition of Ladies’ – Bishop’s Hockey Shield by its win in the Under 17 match.
The tournament concluded by prizing Devthilini Fernando of Bishop’s College as the Girls Under 17 Best Defensive Player as well as the Girls Under 19 Best Offensive Player and Sulani De Silva of Ladies’ College as Girls Under 17 Best Offensive Player and Girls Under 19 Best Defensive Player. Best Goal Keeper trophies went to Ladies’ College in which Dehara Senaratne secured to be the Best Goal Keeper in Under 17 match and Suhithri Paranamanage in Under 19 match.
