Ananda Prathiba 2012

Ananda Prathiba 2012
For the lovers of Sri Lankan culture, traditional dancing has always been a bringer of real entertainment. For many centuries the Sri Lankan dancer has entertained crowds with his elegant footwork, flashing hands and body movements following the rhythm of traditional drums. Thus the invaluable art survives even today, during a time of Western dominance in almost all the aspects of life.

Giving lif e to the ancient dancing patterns is no easy task. Years of dedicated practice are essential for mastering the rich tradition. Veterans in the art, therefore, are not very easy to find. A passion for mastering the art is not very commonly found in the minds of the modern youth, owing to the hectic lifestyles and various other occupations. Therefore preserving this tradition for the future has become the responsibility of the few still surviving dancers’ generations. Having understood the need, the Dancing Circle of Ananda College decided to give their best in achieving this. In the year 2002, they brought forward a novel concept organizing ‘‘Anada Prathibha’’ for the first time. This was none other than a colourful event which comprised of many traditional dancing items, all of which were performed by young Anandians. Since then the legacy has been witnessed by the Sri Lankan crowds in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009.

This year, for the 6th occasion, the Dancing Circle of Ananda College is organizing ‘‘Anada Prathibha 2012’’ to be held on the 28th October at Lotus Pond Mahinda Rajapakse Theatre. The mega event, being organized after three years will be a landmark in the history of the Dancing Circle, as this will be the first occasion they will be performing on the biggest performing arts theatre in the country. As it always has been, the Dancing Circle has planned their programme so as to give prominence to local tradition, while including items from several world cultures as well. Traditional dancing fused with drumming and singing will undoubtedly be a reinvigoration of minds to the crowd, judging from the effort and the dedication the members of the Circle are putting in to their practice sessions. The senior students along with the teachers-in-charge, who show extreme commitment in both organizing and performing, are the driving force bringing this dream in to a reality. It is a well-known fact Anandians always prove to be the best at what they do. ‘‘Anada Prathibha 2012’’ is yet another prodigal endeavour undertaken by a group of Anandians, proving the fact.

Therefore, the Dancing Circle of Ananda College assures the 28th of October to be a day of experience and entertainment, which is of course, with the Sri Lankan tradition being given the prominence. With a spirit like no other, the Circle having put all their efforts to realizing this dream, is ready to gift the Sri Lankan masses with a classic fusion of culture and tradition, through ‘‘Anada Prathibha 2012’’.
