As the cuckoo bird calls for Sinhala and Tamil New Year, SLIIT was fascinated by celebrations on the 6th April 2017 with the commencement of ‘SLIIT Wasantha Muwadora 2017’ at the university premises.

Students of all faculties dressed in glamorous traditional apparels crowded the university to feel the bliss of culture and locality. The premise was beautifully decorated with Avurudhu glamour, with the day’s agenda jam packed with fun filled events to engage. Ditching the usual sandwiches and pastries of lecture breaks, the dining tables were loaded with Sri Lankan plates of Milk rice and mouthwatering local sweets.

There was numerous spirited games organized and the hustle to win was real. Laughter and joy resonated within the crowd watching the competitors play and the contestants of comedy acts present. Awards and presents were gifted to the winner of each New Year event by the administration staff. The run to find the most gorgeously dressed damsel in jacket and cloth and the most charmingly lad in sarong began, turning the stage into a run way. After a tough decision, the judges finally chose the winners of 2017’s New Year. Students were given the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents with dance and musical items as well as with dress up shows.

The SLIIT Wasantha Muwadora 2017 organized by the Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Business Management ended as a spectacular Avurudhu celebration.
