Autism Awareness walk gained maximum success with the participation of both local and international volunteers raising a considerable amount of donations for the cause. Herewith the organizers send thanks to those who attended, the sponsors and everyone who helped. Let's continue this in the coming years as well.
Mission
Autism is a complex neurological disorder affecting the mental development of children and is said to be one of the fastest growing developmental disorders all over the world. It has been estimated that more than 40 000 children and adults suffer from Autism in Sri Lanka and the numbers are dramatically increasing each year. Unfortunately, unlike in other countries autism is unheard of by majority of the population in Sri Lanka. Hence, there are hardly any facilities or proper treatment provided for these children and due to lack of awareness they are often misunderstood by the community.
The primary goal of this event is to bring about awareness on autism amongst the larger population of Sri Lanka and to introduce the Son-Rise ®Programme as a powerful and effective method of helping children and adults diagnosed as autistic.
