On the 25th of June, we witnessed how the Colombo Rowing Club was energized and gathered around with Sri Lanka’s boat race enthusiasts to check out the second oldest boat race in the world. – The 77th Madras Colombo Regatta.

It was a magnificent day for the Madras Rowing Club who turned out to be the winner of the Men’s Category, winning four of eight events successfully gaining thirty two points in total and lifting the proud Deepam trophy, making India proud! It was certainly not the end for our mighty Sri Lankans, with the Colombo Rowing Club dominating the women’s races winning all four events and scoring a whopping twenty five points. The Adyar Trophy was a definite keep for the Lankan ladies!

After making it through from intense training sessions and the demanding process of selection, we come to see thirteen races at Sri Lanka’s infamous Beira Lake. Both teams A and B respectively off the Men’s event, the first of the Regatta, the Men’s B sculls was won by Colombo Rowing Club ( CRC ) earning their two points. The B team of Colombo Rowing Club had a continuous win at all their races whilst the Madras Boat Club’s A team (MBC) won all their races.

The most anticipated race of the evening was the Boat race of the Men’s A fours and was won by Madras Boat Club with a total of twelve points to conquer the Men’s championship. It was a delight to witness the mighty Lankan women to triumph over the Beira by winning all four races – the women’s scull, pair, double scull and four.
