International Scout Jamboree to mark the Centenary Celebrations (1913-2013) of 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group, Kandy, SRI LANKA
Scouts troop of Dharmaraja College Kandy is preparing for yet another world record by cumulating the first ever Scouts Gathering that will be taken part by highest number of Countries in Sri Lanka February 2013. This was revealed by Mr. Sarath Matharaarachchi, Deputy Chief Commissioner of Scouts and Deputy Pricipal of Dharmaraja College Kandy. Addressing at a media conference in Colombo he further said that since it would be a world record eventually that name and fame of Sri Lanka would highlight throughout the world, hence he stressed the need of everybody’s support to succeed this mission.
According to him the event has been named as RISGO- Rajans International Scout’s Gathering of Centennial and it would be held in Lakeview Park International Scouts Centre in Kandy Dharmaraja premises on 18th to 22nd February 2013. This great event is to be held with the collaboration of another youth movement; THARUNYATA HETAK .
“Dharmaraja College celebrates her glorious 125th anniversary now, while Scouting of Dharmaraja celebrates its centenary. RISGO is organized to mark these golden, milestones. With regard to Dharmaraja Scouting we have lots of milestones throughout our history. In colonial era 1917,1918,19191 were the years we won Great Britain’s queen’s flag. To respect for these achievements Lord Baden Powell, the Founder of Scouts movement have visited to Dharmaraja. We have won the award of Best Scouts troop of the year many times, and recently, in 2009 we produced the Best Scout of Asia pacific region.
“This time our intension is to make participate each and every 161 countries, which have Scouts movement. Preliminary measures are already underway to make this event happen. It should be thankful for the parties those who have already paid their supports towards this event including THARUNYATA HETAK as well as Minister of Youth affairs Dulllas Alahapperuma and Sri Lanka Tourism and Sri Lanka Scouts Commissioner and his staff .We appeal from the whole nation we need your fullest support and well wishes to succeed this event that is going to be held in another 12 Months time.” Principal Keerthitrathne further added.
Mr. Suminda Vithanaarachchi, President Old Rajans Scouts Association the main arm of RISGO Organization, said that Dharmaraja Scouts had won the reputation of organizing many international Scouts events throughout the history. According to him 57 acre land of Dharmaraja premises and landscape competent enough to make room for having an International event.
“With the wealth of these experiences we are preparing for a unique international event enriched with Adventure activities, Youth forums, games, Cultural events site seeing tours and home stay programs for foreigners. There will be 5000 number of Scouts comprised with International delegations, Cubs, girl guides, Scouts leaders will be camping in Lakeview Park International Scouts Centre. ” Mr. Vithnaaraarachchi, further stated.

Theme: Towards Global Leadership
Organizers: 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group and the Old Rajans Scout Association under the guidance of Kandy District Scout Association and the Sri Lanka Scout Association.
Dates: From February 18th to 22nd, of 2013.
Venue: Lakeview Park International Scout Centre, Dharmaraja College, Kandy Sri Lanka.
Participation: Cubs, Scouts, Rovers, Girl Guides, Girl Scouts, Leaders and Old Scouts from local and overseas maximum) (Local – One contingent from each district with 36 scouts and 4 officials. Overseas – Minimum of 2 scouts and 1 official from each country from all six regions.)
Travelling: 100km from Bandaranaike International Airport at Colombo to Kandy.
Program Highlights: Hiking, water activities, sight-seeing, forest expedition, adventure activities, leadership building activities, camp fires, visits to historical places, friendship programs and cultural presentations.
Registration: Registration fee for Overseas Participants: USD $ 150.00 registration fee per person will cover travelling expenses from Bandaranaike International Airport to Kandy and Kandy to Bandaranaike International Airport, inland travelling, accommodation, food and Jamboree badge, Jamboree scarf and Jamboree Hand book.
Applications: Application can be downloaded from the official web site (www.risgo.info) and duly filled application should be sent through National Headquarters to Joint Secretary, RISGO Centennial 2013, Dharmaraja College, Kandy, Sri Lanka. Closing date for applying is August 31st, 2012.
Visas: The organising committee will arrange to facilitate visas for all overseas participants.
Facilities Provide: Camping under tents, Electricity supply, Standard water and toilet facilities, 24 hr. hospital service, security services, home stay program, site seen tours, transport services, communication facilities etc.
