Sandeshaya Awards 2012

Sandeshaya Awards 2012
In order to uphold the glorious decades of Announcing, Organizing and most importantly innovation, the Broadcasting Unit of Ananda College takes its stride in organizing “Sandeshaya Awards 2012”. Since its establishment, the ultimate aim of the Broadcasting unit was to create a revival in the school based media arena of the nation and therefore it is with immense pride and confidence that we have taken the initiative to organize the ‘Sandeshaya Awards 2012’ the only Media Felicitation Ceremony yet being organized within Sri Lanka by a school based media unit.
It was none other than the element of being innovative that stirred the proud members of the ACBU to bring a renaissance back into life. Thus, with all the motivation and dedication the first ever Media Felicitation ceremony was organized by the Broadcasting Unit of Ananda College as the “Sandeshaya Awards” in 2010. A procedure of awarding the media streams in the country had not been organized even then and it was this factor that drove the members of the ACBU to organize such a glamorous event – the fact that not many would attempt to tread upon such rough waters and once again the members of the ACBU backed with immense courage and skill hjave taken the initiative to keep this legacy flowing.
The ‘Sandeshaya Awards’ is organized with the ideology of felicitating media corporations. Awards will be handed over for the most popular programs, Television channels, Radio channels, Newspapers and Websites of Sri Lanka. The interesting sparks trigger off when it comes to the execution of the plan for this prestigious event. The ‘Sandeshaya Awards’ is carried out by results gauged from an Island wide media research which is once again taken on by the members of the Broadcasting Unit and along with the analysis provided by the Census and Statistics Department of the University of Colombo.
The Island wide media research can be considered as the most vital and the most decisive part of the ‘Sandeshya Awards’. This procedure would be an impossible challenge to any media institution, but by harnessing the great organizing skills of our members, we have been able to achieve to the brim by completing this massive task which was never attempted by a school based media organization or any other corporation before.
The research takes place in a manner in which every province in Sri Lanka receives the ability actively participate in the complete research. Furthermore the research is executed amongst students of the Advanced Level (16-18 years) sections in schools, thereby laying out the judgement based on the decisions of the youth of the nation.
The fact that a group of students not more than 19 years of age decide to venture into all the parts of the country to implement this research is indeed astonishing. While walking through the streets with no proper modes of shelter, travelling from school to school, through the paths they’ve never trodden upon, through the roads they’ve never heard of, there has been nothing that the members of the Broadcasting unit of Ananda College have been unable to endure.
It is also with extreme confidence that we sideline the fact that undoubtedly thousands of Sri Lankans would look at what we have achieved in marvel at the end of the day and the heart of the Broadcasting Unit is filled with pride for we would definitely let her and our motherland witness the fact that such a small ‘Unit’ actually managed to execute such a sophisticated plan which only a few would attempt to implement. A little determination and confidence can go a very long way indeed.
