"Diridaru Piyasa" of "Miranda Hemalatha Kala Ashramaya" is sheltering children who have become victims of Down's Syndrome (http://www.downs-syndrome.org.uk/information.html). Miranda Hemalatha Kala Ashrmaya (http://mhkachildren.org/) has a history of over fifty years, started in 1957 with three children at Panadura, Kalutara district in the Western Provience of Sri Lanka. In 1958, the first dance drama of Ms. Miranda Hemalatha was presented by this institute called “Vasantha Thilaka”. Since then this institute has been presenting a number of dance programmes with a lot of innovations and experiments in the field of traditional and creative dances directed and choreographed by Ms. Miranda Hemalatha. This project was initially conceptualized by Ms. Miranda Hemalatha Director of the Kala Ashramaya, who is a well known Bharathanatyam & Kandyan dancing artist and teacher, choreographer and educationist and who has over 45 years of experience and expertise in teaching Dance and Drama to all levels of children and youth.

In year 2000, when two Down syndrome children enrolled in the usual weekly dance lessons of the kala Ashramaya. Working with these two children opened up new vistas of discovering novel approaches to help the children with limitation to express themselves through the medium of dance/drama. The experiment eventually led Hamalatha to expand the enrollment of such children in the years to come and develop their skills and abilities to such an extent as to be able to present two well attended public performances of dance at B.M.I.C.H by children with Down syndrome. This lead to the establishment of Diri daru Piyasa (http://mhkachildren.org/node/10) in 2004.

The earnings from this event will go to a fund of "Diridaru Piyasa".

Together, we can make a difference. Join us to bless and brighten up the souls of needy...
